Even a day without food is a crisis. With more than 23,000 children classified as food insecure and 14,000 children in Fort Smith and Van Buren public schools depend on federally provided meals.

We call attention to the problem with the “Have a Souper Weekend!” soup distribution. President’s Day turns the winter weekend into a 3-day holiday.  We want to assure that children have enough food to see them through.

In 2016, almost 15,000 cans of soup, enough for 28,000 bowlfuls, were distributed along with the same number of pudding snacks to 7,350 school kids to make sure there is extra food in their homes. Should a snow day hit, hopefully there’s a can of soup on their kitchen shelves.
